The purpose of the Music Ministry at Mary Queen of Peace is to follow the guidance of the Catholic Church’s Magesterium, which in part states that:
“The Church earnestly desires that all the faithful be led to that full, conscious and active participation in liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the liturgy. In the reform and promotion of the liturgy, this full and active participation by all the people is the aim to be considered before all else.” (CCC #1141)
We aim to do this by inspiring the congregation to sing! We desire to use our voices, hearts, and instruments to lead people closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We choose music that connects with the congregation’s hearts and spirits, with the aim of strengthening each parishioner’s personal relationship with God.
Our parish choir provides music for the Sunday 10:00 a.m mass year around and at many holy day Masses. Membership is open to all parishioners ages 18 and up. High school students (under age 18) may join the choir accompanied by a parent/guardian. Music reading ability and prior choir experience is helpful but not required. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays evenings.
The cantor leads the congregation in song. Participation in this ministry requires proficiency in reading music, as well as prior cantor or choral experience. Rehearsals with our parish Music Director and assigned Mass schedules are always based upon the cantor’s availability.
Piano and organ are needed to accompany our parish music. Guitar, band and orchestra instruments can add beautiful depth to our music. Participation in this ministry requires strong proficiency in reading music, as well as performance experience on your instrument. Rehearsals with our parish Music Director and assigned Mass schedules are always based upon the instrumentalist’s availability.
Groups of singers and instrumentalists are encouraged to form ensembles under the guidance of our parish Music Director. Rehearsals and Mass schedules can be based upon the group’s availability.
High School Musicians (gr. 9-12)
Singers are encouraged to cantor, join the Adult Choir, or even form an ensemble under the guidance of our parish Music Director. Instrumentalists are a very welcome addition to all our Mass times! Please see the descriptions for Adult Choir, Cantor, Instrumentalist, and Ensembles.
